Gabriel Rodriguez is a Lighting Designer, Educator, and Mentor. He is currently working towards an M.F.A. in Design for Theater and Entertainment at the UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television. He also works as a Lecturer in Lighting Design for the UCLA Design Innovation Summer Institute.
My goal is to help decolonize the way we access, consume, and teach American Theatre.
My aspirations and responsibilities do not exist within my identity and community alone — as an American, I believe the complex history and conflicted present of the United States is a part of my storytelling lineage.
I am interested in collaboration with anti-ableist and anti-racist practices kept in mind. I want to tell stories that celebrate the diversity in identity and the range of emotions within the human experience. I am committed to accessibility, equity, and transparency.
